My first travel bug will start his journey and should reach out for many geocaches, countries and places. On his journey all finders should send a photo that shows the geocache, the surroundings or the geocacher himself. All submissions will be placed into a gallery. Hey – slow down! What is a geocache and what a travel bug?
A geocache is a mostly waterproof container at a secret place. The geocache contains commonly a log and some trade items. There are several kinds and sizes of geocaches and also trade items that can be found. If you are interested in to find out more, simply visit

. Besides trade items you might find so called “Travel Bug”‘s, items that are on a journey from geocache to geocache. Some of these travel bugs have a goal, that hopefully will be solved by the help of other geocachers.
A geocacher is a person that is seeking and maybe hiding geocaches. All others that are ignorantly or not knowing anything about geocaching are called: muggles. Geocaching is a modern way of scavenger hunting or paper chasing. Sometimes you will be rewarded for example by finding all of a specific amount of geocaches. Like the rewarded geocoin below that I got by finding all of the 5 Geocaches in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park of Canada:
This was my first geocoin that I received and because I found him too precious to give away, I set him to my collection. Geocoins and travel bugs have tracking codes. Along this secret code a geocacher can log the found and log where he has dropped the trackable item. The logging will be done at a kind of “travel diary” at geocaching.com, this is a log of those geocaches the travel bug has visited.
And for now I’m really excited to let my travel bug start his journey and see where he is and maybe he once will return.
