I’m pretty sure you experienced already on of the following or similar scenarios:

• You transferred your valued photos from your memory card to your hard drive and thought everything is ok. But then you can’t find the photos! Something might have gone wrong with your copy job – but you trusted everything was ok – good that you still have your memory card aside and can …. argh … already formatted!

• You are restructuring and reorganizing your media library, copying or moving your photos, music and videos around to a new and larger drive – but wait – you just realized that you are missing a folder or some files?
• You just accidentally deleted valued files and need them back?
• You thought you never need this or that file again, you just deleted it but then you changed your mind?

Well, my recommendation is to be extra careful when moving data or deleting – “think twice if it is all right” to hit enter and start the process. Take extra caution when deleting things and double check that everything has been transferred and backed up. Check the files at the new location and see if they are OK and having no issues! Can you open the new files? When using a copy tool you might have the option to let the program make these checks for you, if there is an option to verify the copy job – use it – even if it takes twice as long as without. You are the king if you have backups by the way! But if all goes wrong you hopefully did not reuse the memory card or hard drive where the files came from, because if you overwrite the formatted or deleted space again, nearly nothing can bring the old files back. But if you are lucky enough that you did not reuse the memory medium or just put a few new things on you might be able to do a bit of magic with a recovery program.
